Jazz Guitarist and singer/songwriter, Joshua Boyd is one of New Zealand’s finest talents.
Biography
Joshua recently graduated from The New Zealand School of Music in Jazz performance. Being the son of a music teacher, Joshua has been playing nearly all his life – the first chords he learnt were on the ukulele when he was three, and has had formal music training since the age of five. Now age twenty-two, Joshua has an enormous depth of experience and skill, working as a professional musician for the last six years. Joshua Boyd is fast being recognised as one of the top young performers on the New Zealand Jazz scene.
Performances
The proof is in the performance – from the minute his fingers touch the strings you’ll realise that Joshua Boyd has something very special to offer. Joshua is also versatile in his musical interests – as well as being an amazing guitarist he also has a fantastic voice, and is a master on a drum kit too. This wide range of skills makes Joshua an exceptional all-round musician with equal expertise in sight reading, musicianship, and performance. Joshua performed as a guest artist at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California in 2001 and has performed alongside internationally renowned artists such as Geoff Culverwell, James Morrison, Tom Lellis and Gary Fisher.
A Natural Entertainer
Joshua Boyd is a natural entertainer; his charismatic, warm personality enables him to engage easily with a crowd, and his skill as a soloist or as part of a team never fails to impress. Joshua has recently finished working for Carnival Cruise Lines as a showband guitarist and has just moved to Sydney to continue his musical career. Joshua recorded his first single “Getup” in December, 2007 as a solo artist. Josh performed vocals, drums, bass, guitar, and trombone.
